Interested in making a difference in your community?
The Branch County Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is looking for passionate, motivated students who want to have a voice in shaping the future of our community.
The Youth Advisory Council is made up of up to 15 Middle School and High School students from Branch County and Colon who work together to identify issues that matter to youth in our area, plan service projects, and help recommend grant funding for youth-focused programs.
This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, earn volunteer hours, and make a real impact!
Want to see what it’s all about before applying?
You can attend the first YAC meeting of the year on Sunday, September 21 at 1:00pm at the Branch County Community Foundation (2 W Chicago St, Ste E1, Coldwater) to learn more and meet current members!
Applications are open now — with the deadline to apply on September 30.

The Quincy Orioles Middle School Football team opened its 2025 season with a 32-2 win over Reading Wednesday afternoon in Quincy.
The Orioles scored on its 1st possession when Quarterback Talon Thomas found Kye Dirschell open for a 37 yard touchdown. Grayson Sergent added the 2 pt conversion.
After Dirschell recovered a Ranger fumble, the O’s scored again when LJ Stayner rumbled on from 7 yards and Logan Hayes caught a 2 pt pass to put the Orioles ahead 16-0.
The Orioles forced the Rangers to punt on its next possession and Thomas raced 57 yards on the punt return for another score. Stayner ran in the 2 pt conversion.
The Orioles scored again late in the 2nd quarter. After long runs by Stayner and JJ Wright, Thomas found daylight around the right side for a 16 yard score. Wright added the 2 point play and the O’s led 32-0 at the half.
The Rangers controlled the clock in the 2nd half but the Orioles kept them from scoring a touchdown. The Rangers scored their 2 points on a safety. The Orioles rotated its line-up and several players came up with big defensive stops including Maverick Abbeg and Brody Murphy.
Jonny Bassage had a long run late in the game for an Oriole 1st down .
The Orioles play a split game, 7th and 8th, next Wednesday at Sand Creek.
