The QMS Social Studies department organized a mock presidential election today for every student in grades 5-8.
This week students were taught about the election and the electoral college process. Today, every social studies class was given a proportional amount of electoral votes based on the number of students per class, just like states are given in the actual election. In each class, students voted anonymously, and the candidate who received the most votes was given the electoral votes for that class. These votes were tracked on posters by the office.
The QMS election chose former president Donald Trump, who won both the electoral and popular vote among the students. The Social Studies department hopes this will engage students in the voting process as it won’t be long before they will cast their first real ballots! Happy Election Day!
